Most brands don't advise the use of the washing machine to clean shoes nor drying them in the sun due to the potential of ruining the shoes. 

Most people who wash their shoes in the washing machine do so because it saves time and effort. There's no denying that it's easy and doesn't require much work. Who doesn't like that? Some people manage to wash their shoes successfully and have no problems, but this isn't always the case, and there are some risks involved.

I confess that I tried this a few years ago and it didn't go well. I ruined the shoes in question and swore I would never do it again. So in my opinion, it's not worth the risk and I haven't done it again in the last few years. For me, it's better to wash them by hand. That's what most brands recommend too.

How are you supposed to clean them then?

In general the recommendations are:

✅ Use a damp cloth with mild soap

✅ Use a soft bristle brush for the dirtiest parts like the sole

✅ Dry in the shade

❌ Avoid harsh chemical detergents

❌ Avoid hot water

❌ Avoid direct heat sources
